Via the song created by Maximilian x Majestick I re-discovered mashups on Youtube. The original rap version of GIB NICHT AUF is nice, yes, however there’s a great vocal foundation missing. The mashup gives you everything and more!

And GIMME MORE by Britney is iconic in itself. I clearly remember her messed-up VMA appearance in the autumn of 2007. A few years ago, one of her team members spoke up and told newspapers that people allegedly gave her pills after a meltdown (she didn’t like her wig or had a meetup with her ex), then pushed her on stage. Media called it a ‚debacle‘. Many news outlets dissected the performance then, and again over ten years later. I remember it clearly. We all were shocked that they would let Britney go on stage in this detrimented position. Comedians mocked her all over the world.

Back in 2007, I wasn’t a Britney fan per se back then. But we felt for her. She was a girl that grew up parallel to us. While other singers came and go, she was just always there. Her music accompanied our lives for many years. She and Gaga were the ones to stay, creating the musical backdrop of our lives.

GIMME MORE: I also didn’t like the song at all back in 2007; because how could it recover from such a bad initial live performance? Wouldn’t we always remember the lousy start every time we hear it? Other performances of Britney (and now the mashups) made me forget the initial mess.

First and foremost: The song had an absolute fabulous catchy BEAT, created by Danja… however, the singing part was just too small, too insignificant. With now adding Ariana’s voice over it — with a much more elaborate melody — it just all falls into place right now. Youtube has several versions of the mashup GIMME MORE x STEP ON UP, fast and slow.
